Vitamins B6 and B12 for Weight Loss

Vitamins are crucial for optimal function of the body, this is widely accepted in the medical community. There are a variety of vitamins in our food with some vitamins being synthesized in our skin upon exposure to sunlight. Of all the vitamin types, B vitamins are one of the most essential for bodily metabolic function. B6 and B12 vitamins have been thought to help contribute to weight loss recently, and these are now being considered for this purpose. 

Let's take a look at this in a bit closer and assess how exactly they can help.

B12 Vitamin

Cobolamine is another term for B12, as cobalt is one of the structure's elements. This vitamin is highly important with organ systems, most notably the nervous system and the brain need this essential water-soluble vitamin in order to function optimally. In addition to this, it is essential for the synthesis of haemoglobin and patients who are deficient in vitamin B12 can be anaemic.

Vitamin B12 is available in a number of animal foods. Those who only eat vegetarian foods have a higher chance of being deficient in vitamin B12. Exhaustion and lethargy are signs that a person could possibly be deficient in vitamin B12. In such a situation, patients may be administered vitamin B12 injections which can help them recover from this tiredness and regain the normal energy levels.

B12 Vitamin for weight loss

People have been recently analyzing whether vitamin B12 supplements can achieve better results for those seeking weight loss treatments. However, there does not appear to be any strong evidence from scientific studies that confirms this. Weight loss can actually happen because of a lack of vitamin B12 for some, and B12 supplements have been known to assist patients that are trying to put on weight. It is known that vitamin B12 is needed for transforming carbohydrates into usable sugars in the body. It is a matter of debate how much this contributes to weight loss. 

Even something like vitamins can hurt someone if they are not taken correctly, or are taken in too large of amounts. Vitamin B12 that is taken into the body in the form of food has not been documented to have hurt anyone, but injecting the supplement can cause harm, if done improperly. The body has a certain capacity for absorbing vitamins and nutrients, and if too much of anything is ingested they no longer are beneficial. 

Vitamin B6

Pyridoxine is another name for vitamin B6, and it's water-soluble, like the B12 vitamin. The body has many active forms of B6 within it. Amino acids within protein molecules are broken down by the crucial B6 vitamin, and glucose production within the body is also assisted by it. It also helps break down fats as well.

Vitamin B6 is also available in a variety of foods such as whole grain, nuts, vegetables and meat. The symptoms that someone is deficient in vitamin B6 could include inflammation of the cheeks and or tongue, and skin diseases, among other things. 

Weight loss using vitamin B6

There is a lack of solid proof at this time that vitamin B6 is linked to weight loss, similar to how B12 is regarded. When the body burns extra fat and breaks down food, it is known that vitamin B6 is an important part of this process, as the metabolism of lipids is stimulated by this.

Having too much vitamin B6 in the body can cause it harm, as the thyroid gland can be stimulated beyond healthy levels. By doing so it can actually cause weight loss but this is an unhealthy way to go about doing it.

Synopsis

Both of these vitamins B6, and B12 are incredibly important for the body to function optimally. There are no studies that conclusively say that they are linked directly to weight loss. People need to think about the best ways to be healthy and shed weight, including having sensible diet, and getting enough physical activity.
