Dr. Albert T. W. Simeons, often called Dr. A. T. W. Simeons is the pioneering founder of the world renowned 'hCG diet'. This diet is often used to treat obesity.
He was born in England, and he spends his childhood in London. After that he studied Medicine in the University of Heidelberg. Soon after that, Dr. Simeons moved to Germany and then in Switzerland. While he was there, he worked many different areas of Medicine, when he decided to specialise in Tropical medicine. His decision leads him to Hamburg where he started visiting the School of Tropical Medicine.
During his time studying and working, Dr. Simeon worked on and studied injection remedies for malaria along with methods of staining malarial parasites. For this work of his, he was awarded the Red Cross Order of Merit by the Queen of England in 1931.
In 1931, he moved and resided in india for 18 years, where he continued to practice medicine and where something remarkable came to his attention. While in India, he discovered that though many women seemed to be undernourished, they still gave birth to healthy babies. He also observed that their bodies still produced large amounts of human Chorionic Gonadotropin ( hCG) which was breaking down bodily fats and resupplying them to the babies resulting in healthy babies. He moved from India and settled in Rome, Italy in 1949.
Dr. Simeons published 'Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity' in 1954, subsequent to a period of research, with the hypothesis that the breakdown of fats happen during periods of starvation, but after a space of 90 days, fats around the joints and thighs are broken down to provide nutrients. He reasoned that because in health people these fats are not utilized, it leads to weight gain.
As Dr. Simeons continued with his research, he published a report in which he expressed surprise at how a diet low in calories combined with hCG resulted in a noticeable weight-loss that reshaped the body, and sometimes recognized in subjects who were not given to exercising. The treatment was devoid of side-effects such as headaches, irritability, hunger pangs or weakness. So, Dr. Simeons concluded that it was the fat reserves that were broken down and helped subjects to slim down.
Putting together his findings in his manuscript, Dr. Simeons created one of the most talked about weight loss programs on the market today. Thousands of people still use his program with excellent results. There is no doubt that what appeared to be just an observation has led to one of the major discoveries in weight loss and weight maintenance in the modern era.
